Frankly, Let's be Sirius (Oh, How Wordy!)

Ben and I will be guest hosting on Sirius Out Q tomorrow (The Frank DeCaro Show) from 11 am til 2 pm. Sirius channel 109, XM 98.

Frank is not only a great, funny, cupcake-loving guy (who knows how to wear a sharp suit), but has also been a true friend to us and even once took me to Wendy's to give me career advice.

If you can't take advice from a guy who eat Wendy's who can you take advice from?

By George I Think He's Wiped It

George W. and Bill Clinton are in Haiti raising money and lifting spirits after the earthquake. They're even out there shaking hands with regular people. While Bill doesn't mind touching anyone and everyone around, George isn't quite as friendly. I hope Bill knows a good dry cleaner.

(Insert blue dress joke here.)

Gawker has a great piece on the disaster know as Regent/Here Media. Wow, it turns out that I might've worked at a Ponzi scheme. Does it get any cooler than that?!

An Unhealthy Situation

Try to count the broken promises in this video, then I'll offer up some thoughts on healthcare...

I waited a day before writing about healthcare because I wanted to write about the process, not the bill, and not just regurgitate talking points like everyone on cable news is doing. Also, I watched so much CNN that my whole body was left numb and I had to wait til it passed so that I could type again. I've finally shaken it off, so here we go...

In the year that it took to get this thing passed, we saw President Obama break virtually every campaign promise he ran on, such as being bipartisan, having transparency, no lobbyists, and no shady deals. At the same time, the Republicans realized that since they weren't in power they just united to run against anything the Democrats wanted to do, regardless of what it was. Caught in the middle of that were people like Bart Stupack who abandoned their core values on things like abortion, just to toe the party line. Or that little man Dennis Kucinich, who was always against the bill until Obama took a last minute trip out to visit him. Or even all of the people of Nebraska, who didn't want the kickback that they were originally given as part of this.

Oh, and let's not forget we got introduced to a group of people know as Tea Partiers, a classy group, indeed.

I guess the lesson here is that government is so broken that it can only work if only broken people are a part of it. It actually needs people who run on all lies, throw out everything they believe in when they are in office and ignore the will of the people just so it can function. So, in that regard, it shows that this whole thing actually was a success, because Obama just said "we're doing this no matter what" and that the ends justify the means. Seems like he took a page from George W. Bush in that regard.

Oh, and for the record, I think I am one of the people who stands to benefit from this, because I currently pay $390 a month for my health insurance, so believe me, I do actually hope this whole thing works.

I'd write more now, but in a true American way I'm gonna take that $390 and go to the dog track...

Betty Does Larry

I was gonna try not to post about Betty White today, but it is just about impossible because she keeps showing up everywhere. Last night she was on Larry King Live (for some reason after Dennis Kucinich) and she was great as always. Watching two octogenarians talk about Twitter, or "Tweeter" as Larry calls it, is pretty awesome...

The Last Night Show with Betty White

As if there hasn't been enough Betty talk around here, she showed up on The Tonight Show last night. How I was not aware of this beforehand is clearly beyond human imagination...

Avatar 2 Secrets Revealed?

One of the highlights of the GLAAD Awards was talking to Sigourney Weaver, who was there for her movie, "Prayers for Bobby." I couldn't help sneaking in an Avatar question, which led to some interesting insight into the mind of James Cameron. You can listen to that, and a bunch of our other interviews by clicking here.

Everyone is GLAAD to Have a Six Pack

Ben and I hit the GLAAD awards last night and knocked out plenty of interviews on the red carpet. We'll be posting clips of them in the next day or two and the full interviews will be in episode #36 of The Six Pack. Fittingly, (and proof that I'm onto something here) Joy Behar received the Excellence in Media Award, which was given to her by former View co-host Meredith Viera.

I'm not sure I linked to this years ago, but way back when, as Meredith prepared to start her gig at The Today Show, Carlos and I bumped into her at our local pet store. It was the very day we were picking Emma up from the shelter, and Meredith, being super friendly, starting chatting us up. Little did we know, but the woman she was with was a reporter for the New York Times and we were gonna get a little mention in an article about her. You can click here and find the part about us.

Anyway, it was a really great evening and we talked to some people we've chatted with before and some new people, including one person who was recently in a little movie called Avatar that may have made it to a theater near you.

Clips coming!

Live from St. Olaf, It's Saturday Night!

The rumor-fest is over, and it is finally official, Betty White will be guest-hosting Saturday Night Live on May 8th, 2010. I'll have to clear out my whole week so you probably won't hear from me around then but we've still got some time before it happens.

And now enjoy this clip of Betty accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Golden Globes from a few months ago. The line about now Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock is pricesless...

Rubinville: Now a Capitalist Website

Sure, Socialism is in these days. Sure, I've run this website with no ads for over seven years. Sure, I spent many years doing stand up for nothing. And, sure, I'm an artist and as such struggle with the idea of making a dime of my talents and hard work.

BUT...

If Dane Cook can sell enough t-shirts on his site to have his brother-in-law steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from him, well, then I want that chance, too!

So, allow me to officially introduce the Rubinville Store, which you can get to by clicking the button in the right column, or by clicking here.

I think you'll all enjoy the Rubinville and Shady Pines shirts and sweatshirts. And for the inner trucker in you, there is even the Rubinville Trucker Hat, pictured above.

Do know that all proceeds will go to me continuing to do all this madness that you all check in here to stay abreast of.* It does take a little dough to keep Rubinville humming and buzzing, believe it or not.

Whether you buy something or not, I will keep doing what I do, and I hope you will keep making that a little part of your day.

*Proceeds will cover the costs of said madness and the occasional margarita.

The Six Pack is Spreadin'

From Queerty.com...

Ben Harvey and Dave Rubin are the two banter boys behind Ben & Dave's Six Pack, the weekly gay podcast that might be featuring a Broadway star, soap actor, or porn performer depending on which week you tune in. But you must tune in this week, because Queerty has teamed up with B&D (that's bottom and doggystyle) to find out whether either of these fellas actually sports a six pack. Or rather, because Joy Behar — whose HLN show is dedicated to The Gays — checks in.

Listen to the podcast below, subscribe via iTunes, and check our their archives at BenDave.com.

Our idol Joy Behar joins the Six Pack as our Skype guest this week, proving that dreams do come true. Is she the hardest working woman in show biz? What does she think of Snooki and J-Woww? What exactly is psycho drama and why won't Barbara Walters take part in it? Joy has no qualms about giving us her brutally honest answers. Be sure to check out The Joy Behar Show on HLN at 9pm EST and of course every weekday on The View.

Queerty-logo_85w We've got our own hot topics to cover in Top to Bottom: Apple is going "explicit," CPAC is going gay, and you're never going to want to eat another hot dog. (Of the food variety, at least.) Top to Bottom is now powered by Queerty.com, where you can go for all the latest in gay news and opinion. They're "free of an agenda, except that gay one."

Jay Leno returns to The Tonight Show tonight, months after bombing on his prime-time show and helping to force out Conan O'Brien from his former gig.

What, you don't care? Me neither. It shall not be mentioned again here.

Our episode with the fabulous Joy Behar will be up later today. You can grab it off iTunes as always, but I'll post it here this afternoon...
