Surely You Can't be Serious

Unfortunately, I am serious, and don't call me Shirley. Leslie Nielsen has died.

While he'll mainly be remembered as the doctor in Airplane! and as Lieutenant Frank Drebin in Naked Gun, I'll also always remember him as Blanche's uncle Lucas, who married Dorothy in the series finale of The Golden Girls.

More on him tomorrow, but for now enjoy this little clip which added a little strangeness to the finale...

Years before he became known as a comic actor, Leslie was a leading man in movies such as "Forbidden Planet," in which he co-starred opposite TV's future Honey West. Oh, well: Barry know what I'm talking about.

Ah, the lovely Anne Francis. Who was in Barbra Streisand's "Funny Girl" (barely). The same Barbra Streisand who cast Leslie as an abusive john in "Nuts" in 1987. See how it all comes together, Hal? Are you keeping up, Dave?

I think you lost Dave at "Anne Francis." Rumor had it that La Streisand had a lot to do with so much of Anne being left on the cutting room floor. Her character, what little remains of it, seems to indicate that she's a showgirl on the skids. Or something.
