Free Koby!

As I mentioned a couple posts ago, I finished up Pride here in NYC by having dinner with a few friends, amongst them worldwide eating champion Kobayashi. Well, Koby was arrested today at the big Nathan's July 4th Hot Dog Eating Contest.

On the day we all celebrate freedom, all Koby wanted was to do what he loves without signing a contract that was basically not going to allow him work in the USA for the whole year. Instead he's spending the night in jail.

Take a look...

According to what I read, Koby was not even in the contest this year, because of said contract dispute, but jumped onto the stage as Joey Chestnut was clinching his fourth straight victory. Now that you're a journalist, Dave, you're required to report stories neutrally and present both sides. I'm just saying.

Am I a journalist?! Uh oh.

Either way, from what I understand so far he went on the stage after the contest was over because so many fans were chanting his name. Then he was arrested once he got up there. But it was absolutely after the contest was over, and he didn't interfere with it.

More coming, I'm sure.

I wasn't disputing your version, really. Just mentioning what I had read. There is always a conflict when journalists befriend newsmakers.

Ya, totally get that. It'll be interesting to see how the next few days worth of news pour out. But I do know Koby was there ready to eat if he didn't have to sign their insane contract, and all this stuff happened after the contest itself.

(Where do I get an old school 50's journalist hat?!)

He's been interviewing like crazy, so more info probably coming today. We'll get to the bottom of this hot dog mystery!
